The functions vary; what the sector keeps asking for does not. In manufacturing, the hire usually has to hold a standard under pressure, run people who are a long way from headquarters, and make a call without waiting for permission — which is a description of the job our candidates already did.

Why this pool, here

What actually transfers into manufacturing

Comfortable being the unwelcome voice

A plant controller's job includes telling a plant manager that the variance is real and the forecast is wrong. Most of the difficulty in that role is not technical; it is being willing to be unpopular with somebody senior, repeatedly, and still be in the room next month. That tolerance is trained hard in this community.

Standard work, on the two-hundredth repetition

Manufacturing rewards doing a thing identically when it has stopped being interesting. A career built on rehearsal, checklists and a standard that does not drift with fatigue transfers to the shop floor more directly than almost anything on a conventional résumé.

Three plants in three states

Multi-site leadership fails on the assumption that presence equals control. Somebody used to running distributed teams on unreliable communications manages by intent and by exception instead — they set what the outcome has to be, then leave people to reach it, which is the only method that scales past one site.

The general case — the six things that show up in the first ninety days whatever the sector — is on what triple vetted means. If a résumé here is hard to read, the glossary translates it.
